Course structure and modules

Course Contents:        

  • Introduction:

Definition and concept of production planning and control, phases of production planning and control, objectives of production planning and control, functions of production planning and control.

  • Production systems:

Introduction to different production system, Types of Production, Size of plant, the types of Industry and layouts, Material requirement planning, manufacturing requirement planning, Enterprise resource planning (ERP), Toyota production system, 5S methodology.

  • Forecasting:

Introduction to forecasting, purpose of sales forecasting in production planning, forecasting techniques.

  • Product development and design:

Introduction to product development and design, effect of design on cost, factors affecting product design, product design process organizational Policy, Effect of Competition on design, Product Analysis, Product Life Cycle.

  • Production scheduling:

Introduction to scheduling, Forms of Schedule, factors affecting scheduling, scheduling procedures and techniques, The Simulation technique, the computer scheduling, loading and its aims.

  • Inventory Management:

Introduction to inventory control, its objectives and how to achieve them, role of production manager to control inventories, benefits of maintaining inventories, Inventory Management, Types, Inventory Objective, Push and Pull Inventory Control.

  • Dispatching And Routing:

Introduction to dispatching and its types, dispatching procedures, Routing Concept, Routing procedure.

  • Progress control:

Introduction to progress control, stages & activities of control, Stages of Progress control, line of balance (LOB) and its techniques.
